Rewire Switched Outlet To Ceiling Fan
I want to install a ceiling fan with a light fixture on separate switches.
Rewire switched outlet to ceiling fan. How to wire a ceiling fan to an existing outlet wire. The source for the circuit is at the switch and 2 wire cable runs to each receptacle outlet. I am trying to rewire our bedroom so that a switch that currently turns on off a receptacle will instead control a ceiling fan and leave the receptacle always hot. This diagram shows the wiring for multiple switched outlets on one switch.
Ceiling fans reduce the costs of heating and cooling your home. Wiring diagram for multiple switched outlets. Has 2 cables coming into the box. The easiest way to convert a half hot duplex receptacle or a switched outlet to be hot all the time is really not that difficult.
This setup is how our master bedroom was wired before i installed an overhead ceiling fan. The best solution for this situation would be to convert the wiring at the outlet that is controlled by the wall switch so that the 2 wire cable that is installed between the switch and the outlet will no longer be used for the switching process but rather become a branch or extension of the wall outlet circuit so that there will be a hot neutral and a ground wire available at the switch box. The outlet has a 1 hot wire and 2 neutrals attached to it. Yah you could either buy a new 40 cent outlet that has the tab connecting the hots on the outlet your tab is broken that is why you have one of the duplexes controlled by a switch.
Over at the outlet the red wire is connected to the top switched receptacle and the black to the bottom and the white is connected to both of course and it is grounded. And the other always hot so with a new outlet you have the tab making them both hot so disconnect the hot coming from the switch and that is going to go now to the fan. Depending on how it was originally wired you may or may not be able to change it over from the wall switch alone. Has 3 cables coming into the box.
In the box there are 2 hot and 1 neutral wire nutted together. The red is connected to the other side of the switch. From there it is easily accomplished to rewire a switched outlet to be always on and use the existing switch to control a ceiling mounted fan light. At the outlets each is wired using a pigtail splice to make the hot and neutral connections.
I am trying to rewire our bedroom so that a wall switch that turns on off a receptacle will instead control a ceiling light and leave the receptacle always hot. As promised i detail below how to modify this wiring setup with minimal effort so that the switch can instead control an overhead fixture. The wall switch simply has a loop of the hot wire going through it so if the switch was removed and the wires were connected together then the wall outlet would be. Rewiring a switched outlet to be hot all the time.
