Lighting Circuit Wiring
If you need to know how to fix or modify a lighting circuit you re in the right place.
Lighting circuit wiring. It comes in many different sizes but the most common size for wiring lighting circuits is the 1 5mm2 which is available as flat 3 core earth as well. Line brown to the l1 terminal and blue with the brown slewing to the l2 terminal. Connect the switch to the cable coming from the light. Here we will explain how the most common lighting circuit works.
Each house should ideally have at least two lighting circuits. The 3 core earth cable differs from the twin earth on having an additional core which can prove very helpful when wiring two way or 3 way lighting circuits. Each protected by a 5 amp fuse or 6 amp trip in the consumer unit. Two way switching 3 wires.
Another major defect of series lighting circuit is that as all lamps or bulbs are connected between line l and neutral n accordingly if one of the light bulb gets faulty the rest of the circuit will not work as the circuit will be open as shown in fig below. This does not include the light switches which should be wired in switch wire which contains 2 red cores. We have and extensive collection of common lighting arrangements with detailed lighting circuit diagrams light wiring diagrams and a breakdown of all the components used in lighting circuits. Full set of wiring diagrams new cable colours.
The reason why the wiring of a lighting circuit is more complex than a power circuit is that each outlet or light fitting needs to be controlled by a separate switch. Such an arrangement is not permitted as isolating only one of the circuits leaves live wiring depending on the position of the light switches. One way of providing for this is to install a four terminal junction box in which the cable from a light and the cable from its switch can be connected to the circuit cable. Cable will be used for lighting.
Unfortunately this is usually encounted in stairwells with the line from the downstairs lighting circuit and the neutral connected to the upstairs lighting circuit. Always isolate any electrical circuit before working on the circuit. Once you know this every other lighting circuit will be easy to wire because the principles are the same. Using 1mm cable is allowed for up to 95meters of circuit length.
In modern domestic properties in the uk the main electric lighting circuits are separate from the power ring main circuit. Need to wire a light switch if you are new to lighting circuits this is a good place to start. Running a series circuit helps to provide the same amount of current to each led. A lighting circuit can serve up to 12 x 100w bulbs.
