2 Black 2 Red 2 White Wires Outlet
The first outlet i want to replace has 2 black wires 1 white and a ground.

When measured with respect to the white neutral wire the red wire carries the same 120 volt current that the black one carries making the voltage across these two hot wires 240 volts. I need to replace an electrical outlet that is different from ones i ve replaced in the past. One of the hot wires attaches to a brass terminal on one side of the outlet and the other attaches to a brass terminal on the other side. Why two wires on each side.
Black wires attached to bottom of outlet gold screw side red wires attached to top of outlet middle tab removed and white wires were fastened to silver side of outlet. Typically of the two black wires one will be hot or live the incoming power and the other is the hot wire being used to power a device that is downstream from the receptacle you re seeing. Replaced outlet with two white two red two black and one ground wire. The two silver screws get the white neutral wires the two brass colored screws get the two black hot wires. I watched a few videos online about installing gfci outlets but they only gave guidance about doing it when there s one black one white and the ground. They should both be of the same wire gauge.
If you loosen the gold and silver screws and let them open up a bit you ll see where to slide the tips if the wires in. The z wave receptacle has a black white and green wire.
